Here is my first collection of photographs from our photography module. The brief, to take 6 photographs to create a series. 2 had to represent connected, 2 separate and 2 powerful.

International photographer

For an example of a current international photographer I turned to Magnum photography website.

Dominic Nahr's work really inspired me. Again the colours, layout and texture gives the work an almost constructed composition.

Local photographer

When asked the area of viscom I was most interested in, if I'm honest my mind went blank!! There is so much of the course that I love and sooo much more I want to learn! However when I was in foundation year my fall back discipline was photography and I have aways loved it. What I love most about it is it's deep connection to viscom and how they both work together in an unique way.

One local company that I have came across is Zenith Design Studios. There photography work illustrates graphic elements through shapes, tones and textures. I find there work intriguing and eye catching.

Belfast pen project

If I'm honest it took me a while to get going with this project as I couldn't visualise a design that would incorporate all 3 elements of traditions, culture and spirit. However after researching key words that I associated with Belfast and discovering some amazing designers I finally started to get my ideas together. After a lot of sketching, ripping up pages and starting again, I feel now I have created a design that not only matches the brief but also one that I am proud of.

Jonny Hannah

There is just something about Hannah's work that I love. Everything looks so natural and personal. His use of bold colours and shading is very unique to his style. Without the type in his work it would just be lost. He has the talent and flare to combine illustration and typography in such a harmonious way.

WOW!!! I never thought I would say this...

Perhaps in my last post I came across as slightly negative towards typography and if I'm honest at the beginning of 1st year that was probably the case, it just seemed so boring!! But as the year went on I started to grow fond of it more and more to a point now where it is almost an obsession!! I keep finding unique typographers who's work just amazes me and the one thing I have learned is that type is not boring but is just as much creative and eye catching as illustration.
